Turn on the radio and all you hear is southern rap. During the day, during the afternoon, and prime time. I'm not going to make this discussion about bashing Southern Rap. After all, New York did embrace the early Southern Rap movement with artist such as the Geto Boys, Scarface, UGK, Outkast, Goodie Mob, and in my opinion the last disciple of that early emergence, Ludacris. This discussion is about New York radio stations playing southern rap and not giving any NY artist airplay, unless it's Jay-Z. You would think there weren't any other NY rappers if it wasn't for late night mix shows, college radio specialty programming, or internet radio. Every geographic region has it's own style of rap; it's a given. Those radio stations support the artist from their regions. Why is NY radio only playing music from the south? If someone from Georgia, Mississippi, or Florida visits New York and turns on the radio, they will hear the same songs and think" I thought I was in New York?" All I'm saying is, New York has always been about inventing and not following trends. Where is this the sense of individuality and integrity? Bring New York rap back to New York stations. I'm not saying to stop playing southern rap, but please at very the least include music from the Northeastern Hemisphere.
