When I was real young I used to love seeing my father set up his dj equipment at most of his parties around our block. I had to be about 6 or 7 yrs old at the time I also remember my mom telling me now how even when I was only 3 yrs old, how I used to try to DJ. And I have the pictures to prove it. But to my knowledge I remember really embarking a passion for being a DJ when I was 8yrs old. I was going to my cousins' birthday party along with my aunt and my best friend. When I arrived at his house, and entered his living room I was amazed at the huge speakers set up along the walls. I knew they were speakers but never saw them at that great size before. I also noticed this guy standing behind two silver objects (turntables) and he was rotating black records one after the other. To be real honest I was observing what he did rather than enjoying the party. Every time he did something new like scratching, spinbacks, even talking along with the song I was very interested in being just like him.
I got my first set at the age of 15 on my birthday. My father bought it because my mom was tired of me fake djing on her stereo set that had a turntable attached. Once I got that I knew that I needed records so every $1 I saved I would wait till I saved around $50 and went to buy a few records. After a while I knew that my buying vinyl process wasn't moving like I needed it so I got myself a job that paid me every week. That helped me a lot. I remember my 1st mixtape ever was a 15 minute R&B demo like tape for this cute girl I was feeling at that time. I mean I shouted her out all over the tape and asked her out at the end of the tape with H town's "Knocking the boots" instrumental playing in the background. When I gave her the tape she listened to it and never gave me an answer but kept the tape . I took that as if I can at least make good mixtapes that people will like. Once I slowly upgraded my system and owned a suitable record collection, I hooked up with my longtime friend Mann aka Dj Bambu and began booking parties. I saw myself really improving a year after I was booking parties. The money I made wasn't much but as I progressed, my service price did likewise. Every chance I had, you would find me at home mixing or practicing. I would some times skip meals if I'm in a zone while I'm mixing
I would drive my family crazy but I knew I had their support. It was weird though at times. I would go to some parties, clubs too with my peoples and be more into how the Dj is playing rather that trying to dance with the girls in attendance. I'm always mixing in my head. The thing with me is that I can create blend in my head before I have the vinyl to do it. It's like a rapper thinking of a rhyme before he/she writes it down or says it. I also rap but my strong point is djing. The way I describe my style as a DJ is that I am really not into the battling thing. I am more a mixtape/club dj . I wanna create mixtapes that people will enjoy. I feel good when others feel good. You can sort of tell what mood I'm in by the song I play. When I'm in the zone "I'm gone from the outside world. I also see me being a Dj helps out some local rappers around my way because I can have their material or freestyle on my mixtapes to give them exposure.
I love djing and I'll take that with me to my "Grave". When I was young I was inspired from an older persons in that field, and I wish, not hope, that I will inspire a younger child to do this instead of doing something negative. I have DJ role models I looked up too. Kid Capri, is my idol Hands Down! I also like Kayslay, S&S, DooWop, Ron-G and myself. I see my consistency as a key factor in this DJ Game. One day I would like people to say "DJ AllStar, yeah he is a real good DJ." I am reppin myself, I am reppin X records and power moves productions, but before all those, I am representing Hip-hop and keeping it going.
